John Larch, The Wrecking Crew, 1968.    For the fourth and last of  Dean Martin’s stupid Matt Helm films, Larch succeded  the veteran Gregory (he has 183 credits) as MacDonald, Helm’s boss at ICE –  Intelligence and Counter Espionage. Larch was expecting more. The Ravagers was being prepped, plus a possible Matt Helm Meets Tony Rome with Frank Sinatra. But Dino pulled the plug after the murder of his ’68 co-star, Sharon Tate. Anthony Franciosa becme rhe TV Helm, also produced by Irving Allen – ex-partner of 007’s Cubby Broccoli  – who bought the Donald Hamilton books…  and threw them away, except for Helm and the titles. Bond, they weren’t.
