- Carol Hughes, Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe, 1939. For the last of the three Buster Crabbe serials, the Chicago girl took over Dale Arden from Rogers. On Universal orders. The suits then put Rogers into a rash of B- movies and she quit – and again at Fox. Way I saw it, Ming The Merciless fancied Dale rather more than Flash did.
- Patricia Dane, Somewhere I’ll Find You, 1941. Both actresses up for Crystal suffered under their MGMasters. Dane was rapidly reduced to zero bits for daring to tell off a Metro suit – and Rogers (best remembered as Flash Gordon’s gal, Dale Arden) fled studio and contract when LB Mayer ordered her not to marry in 1943. (She and Dan Winkler remained wed until his 1970 death).
