Star Trek’s re-booted Sulu and several other young USA TV stars – Jon Heder, Dominic Monaghan, Eric Christian Olsen, Kenan Thompson, Wilmer Valderrama – were seen for Brett Spooner until Davis’s test conqueredthe producers. And, suddenly, Spooner was black. John Carpenter’s 1979 original had a small budget, some imagination and a strong cast, recalled UK critic Philip French. “The new version …has a sizable budget, no imagination and a cast of nonentities.”
- John Krasinksi, The Office, TV, 2005-2013. The South Korean-born Cho – he helped for helping invent the meaningful initials, MILF, in American Pie, 1999, and became Sulu in the new generation Star Trek movies – was in the frame with Hamish Linklater and Adam Scott for James “Jim” Duncan Halpert.
