Katee Sackhoff

  1. Daisy McCrackin, Halloween : Resurrection, 2001.    Or Katee Sachoff when losing the  Donna Chang role but winning Jen – for Rick Rosenthal, the Halloween II director some 21 years earlier. “Face it,” said Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers, “they’ll keep milking this cash cow until its udders dry.”
  2. Lauren Lee Smith, CSI: Criminal Scene Investigation, TV, 2008-2009.    Apparentlytoo hot for the CBS winner as her casting was over-ruledfor spitfire Riley Adams – the successor to Jorja Fox’s Sara Sidle role for 22 episodes. Katee finally guested inthe Vegas procedural in 2010 as a rebooted Riley called Frankie Reed – welcomed in an episode by thewriter-producers of her hit show, Battlestar Galactica. The giveaway was the title:Fracked.
  3. Rose McGowan, Nip/Tuck, 2008.    Headlining producer Dick Wolf’s NBCop pilot, Lost and Found, meant she had to quit a four chapter arc as Dylan Walsh’snew target in the plastic surgery show.
  4. Brit Morgan, True Blood, TV, 2008-2013.    She turned down the vampiric Debbie Pelt to headlinethe Boston’s Finest pilot as Detective Julia Scott.Finest wasn’t and Blood spilled for four years.  So it blows.
  5. Jennifer Morrison, Once Upon A Time, TV, 2011-2019.  Jennifer saw off Sackhoff for the role of Snow White’s daughter, Emma Swan, in a cast of fairytale/fantasy characters and Disney toys such as Aladdin, Anastasia, Beowulf,  Bo Peep, Captains Hook, and Nemo,  Cruella De Vil, Goldilocks, Hansel, Jafar, Dr Jekyll (and Mr Hyde), King Arthur, Maleficent,  Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Prince Charming,  Queen of Hearts, Rapunzel, Robin Hood, Rumplestiltskin, Sir Lancelot, Snow White and the seven dwarfs, Tinkerbell, Tom Sawyer, Wendy Darling… and even Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest!  All rather daft –  Jiminy Cricket was a therapist…
  6. Jennifer Jason Leigh, The Hateful Eight, 2014.  In a snit when his script wes leaked,   this is the Tarantino  film that  nearly wasn’t. And isn’t. A movie, that is. It’s a single-set stage play with enough speechifyin’ for a UN climate congress. Never mind, Quentin loved his second Western (third if you count Reservoir Dogs).  Or was it just the search for his Daisy Domergue among the delightful Sackhoff, Geena Davis, Jennifer Lawrence, Demi Moore, double Oscar-winner Hilary Swank, Amber Tamblyn (excellent, if too young, during  the public April script reading at LA’s United Artists theatre), Michelle Williams, Evan Rachel Wood, Robin Wright  No, he was  “crazy, gaga, eyes popping out of my head happy with this film.” Good for him. Not for us.  He was punching below his weight.
  7. Brie Larson, Captain Marvel, 2018.   It was a long wait but Marvel’s 21st feature was a Black Panther-style triumph since opening on International Women’s Day, 2019.  LA legends insist that Carol Danvers was nearly played by Emily Blunt, Natalie Dormer, Rebecca Ferguson, Bryce Dallas Howard, wrestler Ronda Rousey, Katee Sackoff, the Handmaids Tale’s Yvonne Strahovski, Charlize Theron (when Angelina Jolie was invited to direct), Olivia Wilde or The Vikings’Katheryn Winnick. Then, Brie Larson made a 2015 film called Roomand won an award called Oscar.  That settled it for the Marvel chief called Kevin Feige. He lovesOscar winners, booking 18 for Marvel roles so far, such as Cate Blanchett, Michael Douglas, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman  – and Tilda Swinton,  who’s part of The Avengers: Endgame  with the Marvelous Brie.
