Lee Pace

  1. Matthew Goode, Watchmen, 2008.       Not so much “Who watches the watchmen?” as Juvenal  asked, but who them playeth? In the 20 years it took to film Alan Moore’s DComic-book, directors came and went – Darren Aronofsky, Michael Bay, Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam, Paul Greengrass to, ultimately, the lesser Zack Snyder. So did their choices for Adrian Veidt aka Ozymandias: Pace, Tom Cruise and Jude Law.
  2. Chris Pratt, Guardians of the Galaxy, 2013.    The most Lucasian of the Marvel films…  ll the usual prerequisites were the (crowded)  battle of new Hollywood guys for Peter Quill/Star Lord… Seven TV finds (Pace, Pratt, Cam Gigandet, Jack Huston, John Krasinski, James Marsden, Aaron Paul),  three science fiction favourites (Jensen Ackles, Garrett Hedlund Michael Rosenbaum), a couple of  triples (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Logan Marshall-Green), two  hot Brits (Eddie Redmayne, Jim Sturgess),  two Aussies (Joel Edgerton, Sullivan Stapleton), two Total Outsiders (Chris Lowell and Glenn Howerton). And an ex-hottie on the comeback trail (Wes Bentley).  Pace still wound up in the big hit  as Ronan The Accuser –  “the primary villain,” said director James Gunn, “a really twisted guy [with] a really religious bent “
  3. Mads Mikkelsen, Hannibal, TV, 2013-2015.   After the Scottish David Tennant, showrunner Bryan Fuller considered Pace, one of his 2007-2009 Pushing Daisies  TV team. Hugh Dancey, already booked for FBI agent Will Graham, heartily recommended the Danish Mikkelsen – from their 2003 King Arthur. So,  Hannibal goes on forever. First the 1986 movie, Manhunter, then 1990’s  far mode successful Silence of the Lambs, then the sequels, and now a series. What next? Hannibal In Space?
  4. Adam Driver, Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, 2014.
