Nicholas Hoult, X-Men: First Class, 2010. The Texan Till won the younger version of the leonine, superhumanHank McCoy/Beast created by veteran TV star Kelsey Grammer in X-Men: The Last Stand, 2005. And then changed his mind, having issues about the hours of required make-up involved. (He was churned into Cyclops’ brother, Havok). Less fussy were Twilight’s Lautner, Reiley McClendon from Lousiana and Broadway star Benjamin Walker (2011’s notorious Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) -he joined the Marvelverse as Erik Gelden opposite Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, TV, 2015-2019.
-
Josh Hutcherson, The Hunger Games, 2011.
- Jamie Campbell Bower, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Germany-Canada-US, 2012. When the cocky Alex Pettyfer lost out by asking for $10m, the support role was a battle between Twilighter Bower and the Texan Till. Plus Douglas Booth, Leebo Freeman, Max Irons, Alexander Ludwig, Xavier Samuel, Ed Speleers, Nico Tortorella. Seen as the next Hunger Games. It wasn’t and the (first!) sequel, The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes, had a quiet funeral. Family only, no suits.
- Theo James, Divergent, 2013. The Descendants’ Shailene Woodley was the sole choice for Tris in the urban (and dumb) Twilight Games. To find Tobias “Four” Eaton, her significant other, “chemistry readings” were staged with her and Till, Luke Bracey, Jeremy (“I don’t wanna be a teen idol”) Irvine, Alexander Ludwig, Alex Pettfyer, Jack Reynor, Miles Teller (he became Peter) and Brenton Thwaites.
- Kellan Lutz, Expendables 3, 2013. Although Sylvester Stallone’s concept was a pensionable dirty dozen, he always made sure of the teen market. (Adhering to the historic lesson of Ricky Nelson in Rio Bravo). He wanted Till, but Smilee finally became Twilight’s Edward Cullen, Tarzan’s toon voice and Hercules’ body in 2014. Till, X-Men’s Havok, became TV’s new MacGyver, 2016-2019.
