1. – Lorna Maitland, Lorna, 1964. “Pay off the other frail, You think I care ’bout principles? I care about the film. Lay a $1,000 on her, say goodbye, then tell her Russell says he’s sorry.” Russ Meyer said he had to do it. “I have to live with this movie. It’s my ass.” Actually, it was Maitland’s ass and her “dreadnaughts,” found in a crumpled Eve Meyer polaroid that really ignited the movie. And so the redhead from Heavenly Bodies, 1963, was dropped, literally hours before shooting began. Her second and last film was MGM’s Unsinkable Molly Brown, with Debbie Reynolds.
