Michelle Trachtenberg

  1. Lindsay Lohan, The Parent Trap, 1998.    Disney scoured Atlanta, Chicago, London, Miami, Vancouver and (natch) LA to locate the twins – or split-screened actress – to be Hallie and Annie. Not made easier by director Nancy Meyers insisting on “a little Diane Keaton. Diane’s so alive on screen and that’s what I wanted.”Contenders included: Scarlett Johansson, Jena Malone (refused three times before Disney got the message), Michelle Trachtenberg (who shared the twins’ birthday, October 12) and Mara Wilson was too young at ten. Lohan was 11 and stole a day off school – to win her first movie.
  2. Evan Rachel Wood, Thirteen, 2002.      Impossible to be Tracy because of her day job: Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Nothing to do with sporting a  tongue stud!
  3. Jamie Lee Curtis, Freaky Friday, 2003.    Annette Bening, Sigourney Weaver, Trachtenberg were second, third, fourth choices for the mother swopping lives with her teenage daughter… just for one day. First idea had been Jodie Foster, of course – the kid in the ’76 version. Jodie felt such casting gimmicks ruined movies.

  4. Kristen Stewart, Twilight, 2008.     Michellewas seen by director Catherine Hardwicke for Bella Swan – the all-American teen falling for one of author Stephenie Meyer’s vampires. Next? Michelle, ,Emily Browning, Frances Bean Cobain, Lily Collins, Jennifer Lawrence, Sara Paxton (Bill’s cousin) and… Stewart, hiding her green eyes with brown contacts.   PS: Also rejected was was future Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence and – hah! – Best Actress Oscar-winner for Silver Linings Notebook on February 24, 2013.
  5. Ashley Greene, Twilight, 2008.  Michelle, aka Dawn Summers in the Buffyverse, 2000-2003, was also having talks about being Alice Cullen. But her schedules got in the way. Again.
  6. Leslie Mann, Mr Peabody & Sherman, 2013.   Trachtenberg was also heard for voicing Patty Peterson, mother the classmate of Sherman, the adopted human son of Mr. P, the most amazing dog in history:  inventor, scientist, Noble laureate, gourmet chef, business tycoon, double Olympic gold medalist. With its own time machine. Plus an adopted human son! Mann also played Patty’s mother.
