1. – Roberto Benigni, Pinocchio, Italy-US, 2002. Sounds implausible but Italy’s enfant terrible (auteur-painter–poet-writer-Marxist and the most religious of atheists) Pier Paolo Pasolini planned a version of Geppeto & Son in the late 60s, starring the veteran comic Totò as Geppetto and Davoli (PPPs lover from age 15-24) as the wooden lad. Totò’s 1967 death ended the project and it was another 35 years before another Italian comic, Roberto Benigni, spun a new spin – and made the flop of his life!
