The Sydney-born singer-songwriter was invited by director Philip Kaufman to portray Scott Carpenter in the great movie about how thde space race top the moon began way back with the macho Mercury 7 NASAstronauts. Springield. knew better. “I’d just gotten friggin’ Hard to Holdand I said: “I don’t need to be a part of an ensemble, I’m going to be a star in my own movie.” It was one of the stupidest fucking decisions I ever made.”
