William Warfield

  1. Archie Moore, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,  1960. The four songs are a clue to what had been the 1952 plan, a full-blown MGMusical version with Dean Stockwell as Mark Twain’s Huck (well, he’d already been Kipling’s Kim),  William Warfield  the runaway slave, Joe, plus Danny Kaye and Gene Kelly as the two con-men, pretending to be the Duke of Bridgewater and French king Louis XVII. Warfield, a formidable bass-baritone, was a successful Joe in Metro’s Show Boat, 1951. And, indeed, that film’s vessel played the Natchez Queen  here on the Sacramento River Delta… playing the Mississippi.
