Alec Clunes

  1. Robert Shaw, The Bucaneers, TV, 1956-1957.       No, no, no said CBS. Clunes is far too British for pirate-turned-privateer Dan Tempest. Far more suitable for… let’s see now… oh, yes, the New Providence governor.  Clunes is the father of popular UK TV star, Martin Clunes: Men Behaving Badly, Doc Martin, etc.
  2. André Morell, Quatermass and the Pit, TV, 1958.        Morell had twice refused BBC’s first TV hero – Professor Bernard Quatermass, head of the British Experimental Rocket Group. Morell finally accepted the role in this new sequel… soon as Clunes passed. For most fans, Morell created the definitive portrait of the rocket man.
