Annabella Sciorra

  1. Roxanne Hart, HIghlander, 1985.   Some 16 guys were up for Christophe(r) Lambert’s immortal clansman, Connor McLeod.  But as many as 24 women for  Brenda Wyatt, the modern-day forensics cop bedded by him. Brooke Adams… who must have felt  she had as great chance, having already successfully partnered Connery in The Great Train Robbery, 1978,  and Cuba, 1979. Her rivals  were  Karen Allen, Rosanna Arquette, Jennifer Beals, Lorraine Bracco, Elisabeth Brooks, Kate Capshaw, Glenn Close, Lisa Eilbacher, Linda Fiorentino, Kim Greist (Terry Gilliam’s huge Brazil error), Linda Hamilton, Diane Lane, Carolyn McCormick, Demi Moore, Annette O’Toole, Elizabeth Perkins, Tanya Roberts (booked for 007’s View to a Kill),  Annabella Sciorra, Diane Venora, Sela Ward, Sigourney Weaver and (phew!) Sean Young.    Broadway’s  rank outsider won!

  2. Robin Wright (Penn), The Princess Bride, 1986.     Director Rob Reiner thumbed through a veritable little black book of Hollywood’s new young hotties! Suzy Amis, Valerie Bertinelli, Yasmine Bleeth, Phoebe Cates, Courteney Cox, Kim Delaney, Rebecca de Mornay, Cathryn de Prume, Sherilyn Fenn, Jennifer Grey, Anne Heche, Marg Helgenberger, Lauren Holly, Patsy Kensit, Juliette Lewis, Carey Lowell, Kelly Lynch, Virginia Madsen, Mary Stuart Masterson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Alexandra Paul,, Amanda Pays, Meg Ryan, Mia Sara, Greta Scacchi, Kyra Sedgwick, Tori Spelling, Catherine Mary Stewart, Brenda Strong, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Uma Thurman, Meg Tilly, Charlene Tilton, Nancy Travis, Amy Yasbeck, Sean Young.

  3. Julia Roberts, Pretty Woman, 1989.
  4. Sofia Coppola, The Godfather: Part III, 1991.
  5. Marisa Tomei, Untamed Heart, 1992.       Sciorra was suggested after Madonna quit the waitress role.
  6. Marushcka Detmers, The Mambo Kings, 1992.      Read with the original majesties: Kevin Kline, Antonio Banderas.
  7. Uma Thurman, Pulp Fiction, 1993.
  8. Demi Moore,   Indecent Proposal, 1992.      Director Adrian Lyne saw many possibilities for the young wife Robert Redford would offer $1m to sleep with… and   forgot   them all when “Gimme” Moore tested.
  9. Colleen Camp, Naked In   New York, 1993.      “I saw Colleen Camp shopping at Bloomingdale’s,” idly remarked one of producer Fred Zollo’s assistants. “Good, go get her,” said Zollo in need of a fast sub when Sciorra fell sick. Camp was located  on an escalator.  Just never went high up  enough…
  10. Laura Linney, The Truman Show, 1997.       Sciorra and Hope Davis were in the terrifying tele-reality loop for the dimple-perfect wife of Jim Carrey, who has no idea that his life is, in fact, a TV show. Despite all the non-stop commercials uttered by wife and best pal among Truman’s world of, well, extras. Sciorra tested with Gary Oldman – and a six-month old baby – not so much of them but of the young New Zealander Andrew Niccol out to convince producer Scott Rudin that he should helm his own script. Rudin hired Australian director Peter Weir.

  11. Aida Turturro, The Sopranos, TV, 2000-2007.
  12. Julianne Nicholson, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, TV, 2006-2009.      After just 13 episodes, Annabella was dropped as Detective Carolyn Barek and replaced by Julianne’s Detective Megan Wheeler until the end of the eighth season…. With a slight break in the seventh when pregnant with her first child, Ignatius.
