Barry Pepper

  1. Doug Hutchinson, The Green Mile, 1998.    Auteur Frank Darabont’s  fourth of five perfect films of Stephen King stories (after The Woman in the Room, Nightshift Collection, The Shawshank Redemption and before The Mist). He was unable to obtain Pepper fpr the sadistic prison guard Percy Wetmore.  Every week on-set, he said,  was “a different chapter in Percy abuse.” This is the 67th of King’s staggering 313 screen credits.
  2. Matt Ross, The Aviator,   2004. Being the third Tom Ripley in six years   (Ripley Under Ground, 2005), meant Pepper was unable to play Howard Hughes’ chief engineer, Glenn Odekirk,   for director Martin Scorsese.   Ain’t life a bitch!
