Carl Stockdale

  1. Edward McWade, Mr and Mrs North, 1941. Didn’t matter who played the antique dealer – all his scenes were cut.  Sticking up for his friends,  Stockdale gave evidence that he was with Mary Miles Minter’s mother, Charlotte Shelby, when MMM’s alleged lover, the director William Desmond Taylor, was murdered in 1922  – so Mom was innocent. Most investigations, inluding those of director King Vidor, “proved” Mom was the killer (althogh former actress Margaret Gibson confessed on her 1964 deathbed). Stockdale made 319 other films, including the rare double of playing Monks in two versions of Oliver Twist, circa, 1916 and  1921.
