Charles Gray

  1. Richard Matthews, Doctor Who #129: The Five Doctors, TV, 1983.      Gray passed  on Rassilon in the 20th anniversary episode, stuffed full with six Doctors, Richard Hurndall as Doc 1 William Hartnell (who was also seen in archive footage like Doc4 Tom Baker), plus Docs 2, 3 and 5 : Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee and Peter Davison. Not to mention Daleks and Cybermen… for the first time in the same story.
  2. Patrick Stewart, Lifeforce, 1984.
  3. Michael Gothard, Lifeforce, 1984.
  4. Aubrey Morris, Lifeforce, 1984.
  5. Nicholas Ball, Lifeforce, 1984.
  6. Anton Diffring, Doctor Who #150: Silver Nemesis, TV, 1988.      Instead of Gray,  De Flores became Diffring’s final role. Born in Bournemouth, where I used to work on The Bournemouth Times, Gray was a real estate clerk and amateur actor turned pro – best remembered for his Bond villain, Ernst Stavro Blofield, in Diamonds Are Forever, with Sean Connery.
