Claude Gensac

  1. Maria Mauban, Le Gendarme et les Gendarmettes, 1982.   Watching a TV whodunnit in 1967, Mme Louis de Funès suddenly yelled: “Loulou, I think I’ve found  your cinema wife!” And that is what Gensac (a family friend) became  in most of their ten films together, including three of the Gendarme de Saint-Tropez series. Not this one, Mauban’s final film and  the finale of the series and of the stutter, splutter, mutter, nutter comic who ate scenery as if it were ratatouille. In the film, he was looking like death… and died at 68,  three months after the release. He had made  156 films in 36 years – 15 alone in 1950!
