Dawn Addams

  1. Fran Bennett, Giant, 1955.
  2. Barbara Bates, Town On Trial, 1956.    When Ella Raines fell ill, another US actress, Bates, won Elizabeth Fraser from the local talent: Addams and Peggy Cummins – for the whodunnit shot in a US style which hardly matching the setting of Surrey, the UK’s finest county. (I know ’cos I was born and bred and buttered there).
  3. Micheline Presle, Blind Date, 1958.    When Paris critic turned auteur Alexandre Astruc invited Addams to join his take on Flaubert’s  L’éducation sentimentale in1961, he asked her to play Catherine Dambreuse rather like Presle in the Joseph Losey film.  Addams burst into laughter.  “You mean you didn’t know that I had refused that film?”  (Well, of course, he didn’t: this site didn’t exist until the 21st Century).
