Dick Henderson

  1. Oliver Hardy, 45 Minutes From Hollywood, 1926.      The UK music hall star (father of the less funny Dickie Henderson) was 16 stone at the time – and, therefore, promptly tested by Hal Roach, searching a fat partner for Stan Laurel. The iconic duo was born in this film – and by chance (!), they both happened to sport Henderson’s signature bowler hat! Legend says that during his Southsea booking in September 1925, Dick carried on-stage the newborn son of two fellow artists and led the audience into For He’s A Jolly Good Fellow. The baby was Peter Sellers…It remains doubtful if the song was ever sung inhis honour again.
