Elisha Cook (Jr)

  1. Eric Linden, Ah, Wilderness! 1934.     At one point, MGM asked Cook to repeat his role of Richard in Eugene O’Neill’s Broadway play. Director Clarence Brown then preferred the 19-year-old New Yorker, Junior Dorkin – and when he was killed in a car smash (his intended screen father, Will Rogers, died three months later – in a plane crash), the Swedish-American Linden won the bst role of his 33 crediuts. He was no match for Cook – one of the greatest unsung Hollywood character guys in some 218 screen roles (lots of gunsels and weasels) during 1930-1988.
