Cedric Hardwicke, Things To Come, 1935.        Now here’s a rotten reason to eradicate a performance… Thesiger had finished being Theotocopulos in the UK science-fiction classic by HG Welles (who actually started directing his script until finding he couldn’t). The suits of the era immediately ordered all Thesiger scenes to be re-shot with Hardwicke… because he had better “marquee value.” Yeah sure, Americans, never mind Brits, must have rushed to queue all night to see a new Hardwicke film.
