  1. Betty Grable, The Dolly Sisters, 1944.  Alice Faye refused to play sisters again with her Fox rival Betty Grable (after Tin Pan Alley, 1939) and quit the studio!  Grable was pregnant and in the ensuing delay an impatient studio actually toyed with the notion of replacing its new box-office queen with such largely unknowns as Robbins, Janet Blair, Vivian Blaine, Patricia Romero. Of even having Jenny and Rosie Dolly played by the Dowling twins, Constance and Doris.  A semi-sequel with Grable and Rita Hayworth as The Duncan Sisters died when Columbia refused to loan Rita.
