Gary Merrill

  1. Tyrone Power, Pony Soldier, 1951.       Odd title  for a tale of a Mountie… Fox shoved Merrill and, indeed, Dale Robertson, aside in order to squeeze one more film out of Power before he split for the stage. His red tunic of the new, 300-member Royal Canadian Mounted Police, circa 1876, proved more luminous than the movie.  This was Merrill’s  film after his (ten year) marriage to Bette Davis.  Quelle courage!
  2. Edward G Robinson, The Ten Commandments, 1954.
