Harriet Nelsn

  1. Barbara Billingsley, Airplane!, 1970.   As part of their plan of hiring non-comics for their zany comedy, the ZAZ team of producer-auteurs (Jim Abrahams, David and Jerry Zucker) asked the mother from, The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet, 1952-1966, to be their white matron (think Judi Dench) suddenly speaking jive. She refused what she termed adult language – in just one of her lines, (“Jive-ass dude don’t got no brains anyhow! Shiiiiit.”). The ZAZers turned to Billingsley, mother of Nelson’s rival sitcom, Leave It To Beaver, 1957-1963. When the film hit big, Nelson felt bad. Naturally.
