Henry O’Neill

  1. Russell Simpson, Valley of the Giants, 1937.      Warner records reveal that the prematurely silver-haired  O’Neill tested for the part of McKenzie in  the conservation thriller way, but heaps ahead of its time. In a 27-year career, he  made 178 movies, including nine with Humphrey Bogart.
  2. Morris Ankrum, Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo, 1944.    The silver-haired veteran (178 movies in 29 years) tested for Fleet Admiral William F. Halsey, Jr.  But Ankrum played “Bull” in MGM’s account of the first USAF bombing of Japan in WWII.
