Barbara Parkins

  1. Patty Duke, The Valley of the Dolls, 1967.
  2. Ali MacGraw, Goodbye, Columbus, 1968.  Parkins and Natalie Wood passed on Brenda allowing Paramount production chief Robert Evans to make a star out of model MacGraw. And, indeed, a wife in 1969. Until he let her make (a literal) Getaway with Steve McQueen in 1971. Whoops.
  3. Susannah York, They Shoot Horses Don’t They, 1969.     James Poe had written Alice for his wife, Barbara Steele.  Get out!  She’s a horror star! Enter  the Peyton Place  TVsoap star Parkins… before deciding on the British York.
  4. Francine Racette, The Disappearance, 1977.    Replaced before filming began.   Francine just happened to be the leading man Donald Sutherland’s wife since 1972.   This was her penultimate   movie.
