- Michael Palin, Around The World In 80 Days, TV, 1989. While shooting A Fish Called Wanda, preparing American Friends and getting interest in his script of The Weekend, Palin is asked to recreate Phileas Fogg’s journey - on surface transport only, accompanied by two film crews for a documentary series of seven 50-minute BBC documentaries. What Palin eagerly grabbed as the “chance of a lifetime” had been rejected by the Aussie writer, TV game show host Noel Edmonds, and journalist Miles Kington and Alan Whicker, the veteran master of BBC travel docus that Palin now made his own.
