- Diana Rigg, The Avengers, TV, 1965-1968. Elizabeth Shepherd was the first Mrs Emma Peel. But she had, for some stupid reason, not been tested and after one a half episodes, she was seen to be missing a sense of humour - essential for any Avenger. Potential successors were, more fully tested. Including Sarah (“Whatever happened to her?” asked writer-producer Brian Clemens when telling this tale), Moira Redmond and Diana - “head and shoulders above everybody else.”
