Isiah Mustafa

  1. David Bautista, Guardians of the Galaxy, 2013.     The most Lucasian of the Marvel films…  Actor-director  Mustafa was seen for Drax The Destroyer. So were Djimon Hounso and Brian Patrick Wade.  And Jason Momoa (Conan The Barbian and, later,  Aquaman opposite Batman v Superman)  passed in order to prep his directing debut, Road To Paloma.  And that’s how Bautista won the big prize  –  the 2015 Bond film, SPECTRE.
  2. Mike Colter, Luke Cage, TV, 2016-   .   Darker, grittier, more tangible than the other Marvels… There had been much talk of a movie with Idris Elba, Jamie Foxx, Tyrese Gibson or Dwayne Johnson before South Carolina’s Colter became the superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s TV division. Thrice over! He debuted in the Jessica Jones series, won his own show and then joined Jessica, Daredevil and Iron Fist as The Defenders. Colter’s main rivals for the black hero were Mustafa (from Horrible Bosses). Cleo Anthony (Divergent), Lance Gross (House of Payne). A crime-fighter on the hush-hush, Cage has exceptional powers – super-strength, unbreakable skin. “But,” said Colter, “he’s not sure how and when to use them.”
