Jean Hagen

  1. Claire Trevor, My Man and I, 1951.       Two great performances here. Trevor (succeeding Hagen) v Shelley Winters (succeedng Lana Turner), both craving attention from Ricardo Montalban as a newly Americanised Mexican worker called – honestly – Chu-chu.
  2. Marjorie Lord, Make Room For Daddy, TV, 1957-1965.        When Danny Thomas began his 344 chapters of Danny Williams’ life and times, his screen wife was Hagen. They did not get along. Of course not! He had been forced into accepting her. However, he hated her attitude, thought her slovenly – ““For God’s sake, Jean, put on a little lipstick.” He got rid of her Margaret at the end of the third season. And made sure at the start of the fourth that her character had died! The good Lord was the second Mrs Williams, Kathy, for the next 228 tales.
