Dodo Denney, Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, 1970.      Stapleton rejected one UK classic to play Edith Bunker in another: Norman Lear’s multi-award (and audience) winning version of the BBC hit,  Till Death Us Do Part All  in the Family. Without guessing for a split second that it would be the role of her life, lasting 207 episodes during1968-1979. On marrying Alan Denney (three times!), Dodo changed her billing to Nora Denney.
  2. Diane Ladd, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, 1974.     Scenarist Robert Getchell wrote Flo with an older woman in mind – Stapleton or Eileen Heckart.   ‘I didn’t know who Diane Ladd was.”
