Jessica De Gouw

  1. Krysten Ritter, Jessica Jones, TV, 2015-.        Jessica had the right name for the Marvel superhero but had been working for the DC opposition in Arrow, 2012-2013… The writer-actress from Perth joined fellow Aussie Teresa Palmer, plus New York’s Alexandra Daddario and the more experienced Marin Ireland in the battle for the ex-super-heroine starting over as a New York private eye in Hell’s Kitchen. With aid from her lover, Luke Cage (Mike Colter), before winning his own series. They then banded together wih Daredevil, Iron Fist and Elektra for The Defenders mini-series.
  2. Morena Baccarin, Deadpool, 2015.       No question about who was to be the pansexual, fourth-wall breaking hero – Ryan Reynolds had created the mould in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, 2008.  But who should be his lover Vanessa Carlysle – no bimbo, nor a damsel in distress.  Baccarin, the Irish Sarah Greene, Olivia Munn (held  back for another Marvelverse rôle, Psylocke, in X-Men: Apocalpyse), Crystal Reed (she joined DC’s Swamp Thing series, 2019), Taylor Schilling from Orange is the New Black, TV, 2013-2019…  plus two Aussies: Jessica De Gouw and Rebecca Ritters. They were all  seen before Baccarin (like Reynolds) achieved the rare double of winning both DC and Marvel comic characters.
