  1. Clu Gulager, The Last Picture Show,1971.   Critic-turned-director Peter Bogdanovich was getting most of his own way whejn casting his seond  (and finest) film. But suits drew the line at the singer for the character of Abilene.  Gulager brought something extra to the role –  his stetson from 104 episodes of The Virginian cowpoke series!  Dean acted in eight TV productions. His only movie was being the Howard Hughesish figure, Willard Whyte, in 007’s Diamonds Are Forever.  He did not sing the Bond song.
