Joan Carroll

  1. Jackie Horner,  Panama Hattie, 1941.    Playing Dan Dailey’s daughter, in  this Cole Porter songfest was supposed to mark the end of Temple’s MGM contract before starting another for producer David O Selznick.    Horner took over as Geraldine – and was nearly replaced by Carroll during extensive re-takes in April ’42.  But ’twas the film  that as bad, not the cast. Well, apart from Red Skelton’s mugging that,  said critic Michel Grost,  made the Three Stooges look like Olivier.
