Joan Vohs

  1. Marian Carr, Ring of Fear, 1953.   Both  Vohs and Vera Miles were swept away by the Kentuckian Carr.  However, the star, of all people, was pulp writer Mickey Spillane solving some circus murders as if he were his own Mike Hammer.
  2. Anita Ekberg, Artists and Models, 1954.   A Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis movie?  Yeah, sure, fine.   Except Ekberg refused to stay typecast  “Once a dumb blonde,”  she complained, “always a dumb blonde in the opinion of some of the producers and casting directors.” Yet she joined them again the following year for the film half-named after her.  Hollywood or Bust.
