John Slattery

  1. Christopher Meloni, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, TV, 1999-2020.   Slattery, Nick  Chinlund and Gary Sinise were up for the latest Dick Wolf cop. “There’s no doubt who we should choose – Hargitay and Meloni,” said iconic producer Dick Wolf.  They’d always been his favourites – “perfect chemistry!” – of the final group of three girls and four guys. Christopher scored  273 episodes and Mariska hit a record 479 episodes by 2020  as Detectives Elliot Stabler  and Olivia Benson – named after  Wolf’s children. Slattery’s day would come –  as quickly as the next paragraph…
  2. Jon Hamm, Mad Men, TV,2007-2015.     “Being a selfish actor, I didn’t necessarily see the full potential in the beginning.”  Slattery went in to read for the lead, Don Draper – and everyone preferred him for Don’s Madison Avenue boss, Roger Sterling.  (His snow white hair did it!).  During the whole pilot episode, “[Creator] Matt Weiner claims I was in a bad mood,” Slattery told The Hollywood Reporter in 2015.  “I had a couple of scenes, but I wasn’t as emotionally invested as some of the people because there wasn’t that much of Roger in evidence yet.”
