Rip Torn, The Larry Sanders Show, TV, 1992-1998.   The stage star was offered the part of Shandling’s talk-show producer, Artie, but as four scant screen roles proved, Ruta hws a man of the theatre. He directed everything from Doctor Faustus  tA Streetcar Named Desire. As for Shakespeare, he worked his way up from playing The Ghost and second gravedigger in Hamlet,1963, to King Lear in 1991. Torn won an Emmy for hus Artie, while co-starring with Shandling and Jeffrey Tambor in all 89 chapters of the wicked talk-show satire.
