Mae Murray

  1. Gloria Swanson, Sunset Blvd, 1949.      The Girl With The Bee-Stung Lips  (a lover of Howard Hughes Sr) never really transferred to talkies. “Abusive, borderline delusional,”  said author Scott Eyman, Mae was the primary inspiration for Norma Desmond.  Well, no wonder she was “positively outraged”  at Billy Wilder’s script…  featuring the director of her greatest silent  role,  The Merry Widow, 1925, Erich Von Stroheim… as her butler!
