Marisa Mell

  1. Daniela Bianchi, From Russia With Love,1963.
  2. Romy Schneider, What’s New Pussycat? US-France, 1964.   “They wanted me but it clashed with Casanova 70  in Rome – that was when they were due to make it in Hollywood. Even when they finished up in Paris, I couldn’t manage it – even though they were closer!”
  3. Christiane Schmidtmer, Boeing Boeing, 1965. Rejected the Tony Curtis and Jerry Lewis comedy… If only the guys had followed her lead. MM refused to sign a seven-year Hollywood deal. The money was great, she agreed, but the cotract was greater – “a whole book. I think that even to go to the toilet I would have needed a permission.”
  4. Leslie Caron, The Defector, 1966. As Montgomery Clift’s final co-star. Two years before, she has rejected a seven-year Hollywood contract. “I think that even to go to the toilet, I would have needed a permission.”
  5. Britt Ekland, Stilleto, 1968. One of the reasons she never worked in Hollywood – not with drek like this on offer. Indeed, Marisa’s scenes in her sole US movie, Mahogany, 1974, were made in Rome.
  6. Rosemarie Lindt, Salon Kitty, 1975.    “I talked to her,” Italian director Tinto Brass told me in Paris,   “and she seem attracted at first…” Almost a Broadway star in a Mata Hari project for mighty White Way producer David Merick and and top MGMusical director Vincente Minnelli, Marisa ended her career shooting pix in transparant robes for an Italian hard-core magazines, watching the action, not participating. She died, alas,  in poverty.
  7. Lina Romay, Camino solitario, Spain, 1983.   The indefatigable Spanish horror/porno director Jess Franco first tried to make this thriller in February 1972. Took him another decade to get it back on The Lonesome Road (the first title) with Mell substituted by his wife… the sexy actress with more aliases than major criminals (or Jess Franco, himself!). Rosa Almirail, Rosa Maria Almiral, RM Almirall, Rosa Almirall, Rosa M Almirall, Rosa María Almirall, Betty Carter, Jean Collins, Candice Coster, Candy Coster, Lennie Hayden, Lulu Laverne, Jane Morgan, etc.
