Mercedes McCambridge

  1. Jeannette Nolan, Macbeth, 1948.     Vivien  Leigh was (often) the  first choice of  Orson Welles, McCambridge second. She knew him from their radio days. A decade later, she had a juicy cameo (“I wanna watch”) in his Hollywood comeback, Touch of  Evil, 1958, and something smaller in the unfinished Other Side of the Wind, 1971.
  2. Ida Lupino,  The Devil’s Rain, 1975.    Mercedes  had to sue Warners to win a credit as Satan’s voice in The Exorcist, so enough with the devil already!
