Michael Romanoff

  1. Gregory Ratoff, Gateway, 1937.   Second unit director Gregory Ratoff substituted  Mike Romanoff as Prince Michael – Romanoff’s nickname in Hollywood, where he  ciaimed to be Prince Michael Dimitri Alexandrovich Obolensky-Romanoff, nephew Tsar Nicholas II.  No one believed him. Well, he was a self-confessed imposter. Mike ran Romanoff‘s a great watering hole for the nocturnal beasts of Hollywood and gave well-paid advice on Euope for all manner of  movies and TV shows, 22 of which he also appeared in. (Don Ameche called this one the worst ever). David Niven devoted an entier  chapter to Mike in Bring On The Empty Horses. I don’t’ have that much room…
