Michael Stein

  1. Mark Wahlberg, Boogie Nights, 1997.    Director Paul Thomas Anderson’s exploration of the 70s porno biz as a family unit derived from his 1988 short mockumentary, The Dirk Diggler Story.  (PTA invented the name at age 17 – “A good porn name has to have two Gs in it. It just looks good, and it sounds good… a K is pretty important, too.” For the full feature version, PTA could afford to check the A List: But Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, Matt Damon (!), Ethan Hawke, Jason Lee and Joachim Phoenix  refused. Idem for, of all people, Vincent Gallo, seen in a hard-core fellatio scene in his Brown Bunnymovie in 2002.  First choice Leonardo DiCaprio  loved the script but had a ticket for  the Titanic. He told PTA: “You should get Mark”… who kept his prosthetic penis. (Gallo plainly didn’t need  one).
