Mickey Shaughnessy

  1. Lee Marvin The Comancheros, 1961.     Invariably there’s a wild drunk in any John Wayne Western.  This one was supposed to be Mickey, but Michael Curtiz (directing his final film) took a shine to Marvin, biigger than life, way over the top. But he also pleased The Stat – John Wayne – who recommended him to John Ford for the  Man Wo Shot Liberty Valance.  Oh yeah, and the Comanches were played by Navajos – taking great deligjt in delivering their lines in pure… Navajo.
