  1. Craig Charles, Red Dwarf, TV, 1988-1999.      Lovett, a laconic stand-up,auditioned as the hologramatic Rimmer – and won Holly, the ship’s tired computer.If not senile.(Well, it is 3m years old).
  2. Hattie Hayridge, Red Dwarf,TV, 1989-1992.     But he  quit after the second series because of his schedule. Helived in Edinburgh, rehearsed in London and filmed in Manchester.
  3. Rowan Atkinson, The Lion King, 1993.    Holly lost out to Mr Bean as  the voice of Zazu – the  hornbill  bird, who is the king’s “majordodo,” as he called  it.
  4. David Ogden Stiers, Pocahontas, 1994.  Six Brits v two Yanks to voice Governor Ratcliffe. They were: Brian Blessed, Brian Cox, Rupert Everett, Stephen Fry, and a couple of sf icons: Red Dwarf’s Lovett and Star Trek’s Patrick Stewart… v Stiers and Richard White. Finally, DOS played not only Ratcliffe but his manservant, Wiggins. Like Michael Caine playing Baman and Alfred!
