Patricia Routledge

  1. Sheila Hancock, Doctor Who #149: The Happiness Patrol, TV, 1988.      Routledge was all very Tory (on TV) but Hancck just relished being Helen A – a venomous satire of Margaret Thatcher. She hated, said the actress “with a deep and venomous passion.” Doc7 Sylvester McCoy agreed, saying the UK PM “was far more terrifying than any monster the Doctor had encountered.” The actual villain, Kandyman, was based on (well, influenced by!) Bertie Bassett, the mascot of Bassett’s Liquorice Allsorts. The sweets empire was not pleased.
