Peter Illing

  1. Elwyn Brook-Jones, Wonder Boy (aka: The Wonder Kid), UK-Austria, 1950.   The amazing French kid,  Bobby Henrey – the Macauley Culkin of his day –  scored anew  in his second and last film as a pianist prodigy escaping  from  the money-grabbing  exploitation  of Brook-Jones.   I never saw his more renowned  debut (Graham Greene’s The Fallen Idol, which opened  the 1948 Venice film festival), but recall, as a kid, myself, hearing the French star  Michele Morgan in a BBC radio interview claiming to be younger than the  nine-year-old Bobby…  “because I was born in  a Leap Year!”
