Rob Huebel

  1. Justin Long, Live Free or Die Hard, 2006.     Originally due to be John McClane’s son, our hero’s computer geek sidekick Matt Farrell in Hard 4 was chosen from Long, Huebel, Ben Affleck, Kai Penn, Brad Renfro, Scott Speedman. Director Len Wiseman wanted Speedman, Bruce Willis voted Affleck and their 1997 Armageddon chemistry. McClane Jr was kept in the Fox fridge until A Good Day To Die Hard, aka Hard 5, in 2012.
  2. Jon Hamm, Mad Men, TV, 2007-2013.   Huebel, a handsome South Carolina comedy actor and writer, and Mariska Hargitay’s husband,  Peter Hermann, auditioned for Don Draper. Hamm simply blew everyone else away. His day had come!
  3. Jerry O’Connell, Piranha 3D, 2009.    Huebell was first up for the XXX website owner Derrick Jones in the latest man-eating fish incarnation.   It also featured Richard Dreyfuss, Christopher Lloyd, Elisabeth Shue and the young Vampire Diaries hunk Steven R. McQueen (Bullitt’s grandson).
  4. Jerry O’Connell, Piranha 3D, 2008.    Huebel was first up forthe XXX website owner Derrick Jones in the latest man-eating fish incarnation.   It also featured Richard Dreyfuss, Christopher Lloyd, Elisabeth Shue and the young Vampire Diarieshunk Steven R. McQueen (Bullitt’s grandson).
  5. Ty Burrell, Modern Family, TV, 2009-  .   Or families. Three. Straight, gay, adopted… Regrets, Hubel has a few, but this is the biggie!  He passed on being Ed ONeill’s son-in-law, wed to Julie Bowen, brother of the gay Jesse Tyler Ferguson who adopted a Vietnamese baby with his partner, Eric Stronestreet. Oh, and O’Neill has a Columbian bombshell of a wife… in what appeared a  21st century take on his previous hit, Married With Children, 1987-1997.  But that series  never won  five consecutive Emmies; Burrell and Bowen collected two each. Hubel appeared in 2011  as the  nemesis of the character he refused. Not the same as being Phil Dunphy!
  6. Jon Hamm, Mad Men, TV, 2007-2013.      The South Carolina comedy actor and writer auditioned for Don Draper. Hamm simply blew everyone else away. His day had come!
  7. Benjamin Walker, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, 2011.       Less beautiful than Buffy or not, the oddest vampire slayer of all was a  hot 3D project (he throws a mean axe!) and a great role – Honest Abe, the 16th US president, from 20  to 55, during his other life. (His mother had been  slain  by a vampire). After seeing Huebel, Eric Bana, Adrien Brody, James D’Arcy, Tom Hardy, Josh Lucas, Timothy Olyphant and newcomer Oliver Jackson-Cohen, the  Russian producer-director Timur Bekmambetov voted Walker. Another producer was Tim Burton. So where was Johnny Depp?
