Burt Reynolds,Boogie Nights, 1997.   Director Paul Thomas Anderson’s exploration of the 70s porno biz as a family unit derived from his 1988 short mockumentary, The Dirk Diggler Story.  For the full feature version, PTA could afford to check the A List. For porno-director Jack Horner, he booked a moany Reynolds – who, despite winning his first and only Oscar nomination, quit PTA’s next feature, Magnolia.  The short’s Horner, Ridgely, was not forgotten. PTA wrote him a special character called The Colonel in what proved his 147th and final screen role.
