Roy Dotrice

  1. Patrick Stewart, Lifeforce, 1984.
  2. Michael Gothard, Lifeforce, 1984.
  3. Aubrey Morris, Lifeforce, 1984.
  4. Frank Finlay, Lifeforce, 1984.
  5. Gerald S O’Loughlin, The Secret Kingdom, 1997.  Bit of a letdown for both actors seen for Chartwell – a former George IV and Stanley Kolwalski, respectively – as three kids find a tiny kingdom (no kidding) under the kitchhen sink (where else?)… I can’t go on!
  6. Julian Glover, Game of Thrones, TV, 2011-2012.    The HBO series was based on the opening stanza of the A Song of Ice and Firenovels by George R R Martin.  Dotrice was an old pal of Martin, having read (supplying all the thousand voices!) the audio books (exceptA Feast for Crows). So he was obviously cast as the Grand Maester Pycelle  – until withdrawing for health reasons. He was later able to join the second season as Pyromancer Hallyne – an elderly alchemist at King’s Landing – and traditionally called a Wisdom – in the HBO colossus following the bloodthirsty family battles for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms.Shakespeare without the words.
