Sergei Makovetsky

1. – Emir Kusturica, L’affaire Farewell, France, 2009. “Forget my number, forget my name.” With that, the Russian actor took the first flight back to Moscow. He’d been warned off playing a (real) Russian traitor by Russian Culture Minister Alexander Avdeev (expelled by France when ambassador in Paris during the very espionage affair the film was based upon). Actor-director Nikita Mikhalkov, who had recommended Sergei to take over his role, investigated for director Christian Carion. “Forget it,” he later reported. “You will never have a Russian actor… and you’ll never shoot in Moscow.” He did anyway, hiding out as a Coca Cola commercial shoot. And stage and screen star Sergei joined Mikhalkov’s next movie, Burnt By The Sun 2.
